Q: How much is a membership?
A: Membership fees for CALA are $25 per year. This includes the primary member AND one other family member who resides in the same residence.
If there is another family member, please include this individual as a member on your application as CALA currently receives a grant from the Township of Rideau Lakes based on the number of individual members.
Q. What is the term of my membership?
A: The annual membership year is from July 1 – June 30. A membership drive is usually conducted in the spring (April – June) so membership fees paid during that time will be applied to the membership for the upcoming fiscal year. Memberships fees paid after July 1 will be applied to that business year.

Q. Was there an Annual General Meeting this year?
A. Yes, our guest speaker this year was Dr. John P. Smol, Department of Biology, Queen’s University, Kingston . His presentation was titled “Lakes on a warming planet: Algal blooms and “the longer summer”. A link to the recorded session will be added when it becomes available.
This presentation focused on the importance of using appropriate time scales to assess common lake management issues in southern Ontario. A recurring theme that Dr. Smol has noted in his career is that the environmental effects of most human activities has been continually underestimated, and that, with the addition of multiple stressors like global warming, we are dealing with far more complex problems than was initially suspected.
